Oman Rail has selected three of the five consortiums on the national rail company’s shortlist for the tender for Segment 1 of the National Rail Network. These three consortiums were asked to extend the validity of their bid bonds to October this year, effectively suggesting that they remain in contention for the contract.
These are: (1) Porr Bau GmbH (leader – Gemany), Yuksel Insaat (Turkey), Sarooj Construction Company LLC (Oman) and Daewoo E&C LLC (Korea); (2) Saipem SpA (leader), Rizzani De Eccher SPA and Dogus Insaat, and (3) Salini Impregilo SPA.
The other two consortiums on the shortlist – (1) Larsen & Toubro Ltd (leader), FCC Construction SA and Khalid Bin Ahmed & Sons; and (2) China State Construction Engineering Corporation (leader) and SK E&C – were told to collect their bid bonds.
The works for Segment 1 cover a 207 kilometre stretch from Sohar Port to Buraimi and are expected to begin before the end of this year. The contract is likely to be awarded in the early part of the fourth quarter of this year.
